He noted that when staff <br />reviews a subdivision, they use the Fish & Wildlife standards <br />which are the most objective. <br />Chairman Bird commented that the Treasure Coast Regional <br />Planning Council is in the process of revising their wetlands <br />policy, and he has become concerned that their new wetlands <br />policy may affect agriculture as well as development. Since <br />agriculture is expanding to the west in our county in an area <br />that may or may not be considered wetlands, he would like to have <br />apublic workshop here with a representative of the Regional <br />Planning Council before their wetlands policy is adopted. <br />Commissioner Scurlock noted that the St. Johns River Water <br />Management District is going to have a meeting in Melbourne, and <br />he would encourage local participation. <br />Commissioner Wodtke wished to know if, in the process of the <br />adoption of the new wetlands policy, there will be public <br />hearings to provide an opportunity for local input and staff will <br />have an opportunity to look at the proposed designations. He <br />noted that we had a real problem when we had to correct the old <br />Flood Insurance Maps. <br />Mr. Challacombe stated that, as he understands it, the study <br />will be conducted solely by -the Fish & Wildlife Service who will <br />distribute the maps to us, and we will have an opportunity to <br />make comments. He believed this can be reviewed in a public <br />workshop before they complete the contract and would definitely <br />encourage that this be done. <br />After some discussion, Commissioners Scurlock and Wodtke <br />agreed to reword their Motion as follows: <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Wodtke, the Board unanimously <br />approved joint participation in the U.S.Fish & <br />Wildlife Wetlands Identification Program as <br />recommended, funding to be from the Planning <br />C! <br />A <br />
