Mr. Buchanan said it was <br />possible, but emphasized it is a decision that a <br />jurisdiction usually regrets as construction costs will <br />continue to escalate and their basic recommendation stands. <br />Construction Costs <br />In terms of cost, Mr. Buchanan stated these estimates, <br />if acted upon in the next year, will probably hold true. <br />However, the cost of construction may go up in the next 9-12 <br />months as the inflationary rate -may go up again. <br />Nationally, construction costs on an average are estimated <br />at $105 per square foot. The prisoner housing costs are <br />$115-$120 per sq. ft. The cost of the Sheriff's Office is a <br />lot less at $61.75 sq. ft. The overall cost per square foot <br />would be $86.02 for the construction of the Jail and the <br />Sheriff's Office. <br />These square foot costs include the facility and the <br />attached equipment.
