JUN 1 1983 to <br />TO: The Honorable Members of DATE: May 24, 1983 FILE: <br />the Board of County Commissioners <br />SUBJECT: HEALTH INSURANCE <br />FROM: Michael Wright REFERENCES: <br />County Administrator <br />Aetna Life and Casualty has indicated that a 77 per cent <br />rate increase can be expected in the County's health insurance <br />plan. <br />Current premiums exceed $400,000 and included in the group <br />are employees of the Board of County Commissioners, Clerk of the <br />Court, South County Fire District, Mosquito Control and Property <br />Appraiser. <br />are: <br />In light of the current financial times, the -recommendations <br />1) Re -bid the insurance at existing coverage with an <br />alternate bid for reduced coverage. <br />2) Coordinate the proposed reduced coverage with repre- <br />sentatives of the various groups. <br />3) Receive bids -for optional life insurance. <br />Administrator Wright stressed the need to restructure <br />the employee health 'insurance plan as the 77% increase by <br />Aetna would result in $700,00.0 in health insurance premiums <br />next year. He felt the increase was a bit excessive and <br />would like to recommend that we re -bid it at the existing <br />coverage with an alternate bid for reduced coverage; bid for <br />optional life insurance; and that we coordinate the proposed <br />reduced coverage with representatives of the various groups, <br />which includes the South County Fire District. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Scurlock, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Bowman, that the <br />23 <br />
