53. <br />Island that needs monitoring, and a motor vehicle would make <br />it possible to patrol both stretches of beach without <br />disturbing or alarming residents when gaining access by <br />walking between houses carrying a flashlight. <br />Unfortunately, after asking for permission to patrol the <br />beach with a motor vehicle, he had two bikes stolen, and <br />this year's program will be done on foot. However, he would <br />like to request permission for next year's monitoring <br />project which would begin approximately June 28th and run <br />for 30 days. <br />Mr. Phillips expressed regret that he would not be able <br />to monitor the 500 feet of beach to the south this year, but <br />would try to drive down there and check it out once a week. <br />Commissioner Lyons suggested that the local Audubon <br />Society become involved with this study, or at least be in a <br />situation to advise the Commission. <br />Mr. Phillips assured the Board that the vehicles would <br />not be ridden over the dunes as they would use an access up <br />at the north end of John's Island.. He also assured them <br />that the Hondas are very quiet and would not disturb the <br />property owners on the beach. <br />Mrs. Carolyn Eggert, officer of John's Island Property <br />Association, felt it would be appreciated if Mr. Phillips <br />would contact Mr. Rose and cooperate with him in this <br />matter. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Scurlock, that <br />the Board grant permission for the use of <br />the motor vehicles for surveying purposes, <br />provided their activities meet the approval <br />of the local Audubon Society. <br />Mr. Michael Rose, General Manager of John's Island <br />Property Owners Association, addressed the Board and <br />50 <br />� � i <br />
