JUL 6 WSJ <br />53 ` <br />Commissioner Wodtke asked why this has to be approved <br />now rather than at budget sessions, and Commissioner Lyons <br />noted that we know the problem exists and he believed now is <br />better than later. <br />Chairman Bird also felt possibly we should talk about <br />this at the next South County Fire District meeting. <br />Victor Foster, Chief of the Indian River County <br />Volunteer Ambulance Squad, made the point that all of the <br />radio communication system they have is owned by the County <br />and the County is paying the insurance, etc.. He further <br />noted that all the ambulances now belong to the Indian River <br />County Ambulance Squad and they now are covering the entire <br />county, not just Vero Beach. Their plan is to equip every <br />one of the ambulances. <br />Commissioner Lyons felt that the Sebastian ambulances <br />already are equipped with radios, but Chief Foster explained <br />that they can only talk to one entity.. This would put <br />another radio in every ambulance - a different type radio. <br />Administrator Wright asked if these are state contract <br />prices, and Chief Foster stated they are not on contract. <br />The Administrator felt since this is over $5,000, it will <br />have to be bid. <br />Commissioner Scurlock concurred that it will have to be <br />advertised and bid, which will take about a month. He <br />stated that he would like to approve this purchase <br />contingent on bidding it out. <br />Administrator Wright suggested that staff be authorized <br />to bid this item and then come back to -the Board, at which <br />time budget sessions will be over. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Scurlock, to <br />authorize staff to proceed with the pre- <br />liminary steps involved with procuring <br />
