AUG 17 1983 PAS' <br />REPORT ON TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING <br />Commissioner Scurlock reported that in a meeting on <br />August 9, 1983, the Committee had approved the following <br />four actions, which he reviewed in detail. <br />SUMMARY OF ACTIONS <br />TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COMMITTEE <br />AUGUST 9, 1983 <br />1. Intersection Study: 8th Street/Old Dixie Highway: <br />Committee approved improvements to the intersection as recommended by staff <br />and requested by a citizen petition. Improvements to include signalization <br />and roadway widening to provide left -turn lanes with funding through the <br />state gas tax trust fund. <br />2. Intersection Study: 36th Street at U.S. 1: <br />Committee approved removal of, the flashing beacon and establishment of left - <br />turn restrictions as recommended by the FDOT and supported by staff. <br />36th Street will be routed to the 37th street signal to provide safe access <br />onto U.S.1 Traffic onto 36th Street from U.S. 1 will not be regulated and <br />access to the hospital emergency entrance will not be affected. <br />3. Emergency Access to Indian River Memorial Hospital: <br />The Committee directed staff to provide a cost estimate for the extension of <br />10th Parkway from 33rd street to the hospital for use only as an alternate <br />emergency entrance (not for normal traffic). <br />4. Indian River Boulevard Right -of -Way Donation: <br />Committee recommended to accept donation of right-of-way parallel to the <br />proposed City of Vero electrical distribution line as follows: <br />A. 41st Street from U.S. 1 east approximately one mile, to be obtained <br />jointly with the City. <br />B. Accept right-of-way from 45th Street south to 41st street. <br />C. Accept an option for right-of-way from 41st street south to -37th street <br />for r 18 months, during which time specific alignment will be established <br />Emergency Access Route <br />The Indian River County Transportation Planning by the dotted line. Staff members will study the <br />Committee directed county staff to look into ex- particulars involved with building a one-way sin <br />tending 10th Parkway to Indian River Memorial gle-lane extra access mute to be used only in ex - <br />Hospital earlier this week. The committee asked treme emergencies. The access would provide <br />for data on the feasibility and cost of extending emergency vehicles with an alternative mute to <br />the street from where it now stops — about 1200 the hospital should U.S. 1 ever become blocked. <br />feet short of IRMH — to the hospital, as indicated (Press -Journal— Sam Rohlfing) <br />26 <br />
