Assistant to the County Administrator, C. B. Hardin, <br />Jr., suggested a special note of thanks be sent to <br />Communications of Vero Beach, even though they were not the <br />low bidder, for their advice on what type of radios needed <br />in this particular case. <br />Commissioner Lyons felt this puts us in a difficult <br />spot with Communications of Vero Beach because of their <br />volunteer activities with the ambulance squad and the fire <br />department, but did not feel we could pass up the low bid. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. <br />The Motion carried unanimously. <br />APPROVAL OF PRELIMINARY PLAT - ATLANTIS SUBDIVISION <br />Before the staff presentation began, Commissioner <br />Scurlock wished to make a few comments regarding the <br />internal problem of departments not meeting the Wednesday <br />deadline in submitting backup material for items to be <br />placed on the agenda of the meetings of the Board of County <br />Commissioners. He.felt strongly that unless the situation <br />actually is an emergency item, our deadline should be <br />adhered to so that the Commissioners have a fair shot at <br />looking at all the backup material, and it can be assembled <br />in a way it can be read quickly and effectively. He <br />recommended that the Commission take a strong position on <br />this matter and if the department involved cannot get their <br />act together by Wednesday, the item will just have to wait <br />until the next Commission meeting. <br />Commissioners Wodtke and Lyons agreed that the deadline <br />must be met except in cases of an extreme emergency. <br />C. B. Hardin, Jr. suggested that we can ease these <br />situations by having the Division head explain why the <br />backup -material was late and justify that it is an emergency <br />item. <br />33' <br />AUG 17 1983 <br />B00(G54PAGt I <br />
