M M M <br />REPORT --PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE <br />Chairman.Bird reported that through the help of <br />Community Services Director Thomas and staff, the Parks & <br />Recreation Committee has identified all of the small parcels <br />throughout the County.that have been acquired over the <br />years, most of which appear to be nothing but a nuisance <br />The Committee made an on site visit to several of these <br />parcels, and the initial report indicates that some are <br />definitely buildable lots which we might wish to consider <br />selling. It was not felt that any of them had potential as <br />future parks. In Glendale Lakes, for instance, all of the <br />lakes have been deeded to the County for recreation <br />purposes, but they are completely surrounded by private <br />residences and are really only a liability and a nuisance. <br />The Chairman felt we must figure out some way to get rid.of <br />them. <br />Commissioner Scurlock noted that at the State <br />Association, the subject of creating independent districts <br />for recreation needs was brought up and with the possibility <br />of Proposition I on the horizon, he felt we might want to <br />look at what vehicles there are for us to continue on with <br />what the community desires in the event Proposition I should <br />pass and we get negatively affected. Chairman Bird felt <br />that was a good point. <br />REPORT ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMPLEX <br />Commissioner Lyons reported that he met very briefly in <br />Orlando with the architect in connection with the study he <br />has just completed on the court needs for the Criminal <br />,justice Complex, and it is planned to have a meeting at 10 <br />O'clock Friday morning with the architects, the Public <br />Safety Committee, and all of the people who would use the <br />court facilities, to check with them as to whether or not <br />they agree with the projections the architect is making. <br />Commissioner Lyons believed it is very likely this new court <br />SEP 119 137 8:00F 4�VF745 <br />
