Attorney Brandenburg repeated that this was not an <br />official public hearing on rates and that a rate hearing <br />will be scheduled sometime in the near future. <br />Vice Chairman Scurlock invited input from those in <br />attendance. <br />Mr. Tim Myers, 224 4th Ave., SE, stated he has been a <br />resident of Vero Shores for over 12 years, and past <br />president of the homeowners association. He felt that, the <br />cart is before the horse in this matter, and that the rate <br />hearing should be held before a water agreement is signed. <br />He reported that process that GDU is currently using is <br />still being used all over Florida, and .felt that the <br />existing plan should be allowed to continue serving its <br />present` customers. <br />Vice Chairman Scurlock explained that the plant has to <br />be phased out and felt that fact had been established <br />earlier in this meeting when Mr. Fancher stated point blank <br />that the treatment plant had to be abandoned. <br />Mr. Myers understood that General Development had <br />assured them that they would have the capacity to serve any <br />and all future development and urged the Commission to look <br />into this to ensure that the existing customers will not be <br />paying for General Development's expansion. <br />Attorney Brandenburg explained that GDU is trying to <br />find the least expensive way possible to provide water to <br />their customers, and.whichever way is selected, will result <br />in increased costs to the customers.
