Box 4401 - <br />Fort Pierce, Florida 33454 <br />Dear Mr. Stone: <br />At its regular meetinq of October 11, 1983, -the Board of County <br />Commissioners aporoved this letter of intent concerning the funding of a <br />full-time Medical Examiner and related facilities for the 19th Judicial <br />Circuit. <br />It is the Board's intention to enter into an Interlocal Agreement with <br />Indian River, St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties and with Indian River <br />Community College, based upon the following conditions: <br />1) That the Governor's appointee, Dr. Leonard balker, obtain <br />certification as a forensic pathologist within the first year of the agreement <br />and not later than September 30, 1984. <br />2) That the agreement become effective January 1, 1984, and that the <br />budoet and funding_ he reduced to the remaining nine (9) months of the fiscal <br />year accordingly. <br />3) That the first year funding proration be based on deaths and autopsies <br />for the calendar year 1982, and subsequent years on actual experience. <br />4) That a duly appointed Committee of Commissioners he considered in the <br />Agreement for purposes of budget review. <br />5) That the renewal of Interlocal Agreements and budget submissions for <br />the Medical Examiner coincide with the budget calendar for the fiscal year <br />required of the participating Counties by law. <br />Chairman Bird stated that if the Board members agree <br />with the concept, he would like permission to write a <br />similar letter of intent and at the same time ask the County <br />62 <br />OCT 19 1983 <br />55 PnE 155 <br />
