rNOV 2 1983 • <br />5-5ria . <br />��. <br />for 4 people and agreed that water was being wasted <br />somewhere. <br />Mrs. Peterson stated that one resident of the area has <br />paid bills as high as $600 for one month, and she is here <br />for help for those people in Gifford who cannot afford these <br />high water bills. <br />Chairman Scurlock announced that the County will soon <br />be scheduling a county -wide rate hearing. <br />Chairman Bird assured her that the County would do <br />everything possible to help to find leaks and recommend <br />conservation measures, but the Commission cannot sit here <br />today and lower the water rates. <br />Mrs. Peterson stated that as she understood it, the <br />rates will not be changed today and that they will stay the <br />same. However, Commissioner Lyons clarified that they will <br />stay the same for "today", meaning there was a possibility <br />of an increase in the near future. <br />DEPT. OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - (CIVIL DEFENSE DEPARTMENT) <br />The Board reviewed the following memo dated 10/11/83: <br />TO: The Honorable Members of DATE: October 11, 1983 FILE: <br />the Board of County Commissioners <br />FROM: Michael Wright <br />County Adminis <br />r <br />SUBJECT: CIVIL DEFENSE RELOCATION <br />REFERENCES: <br />Several months ago, Sheriff Dobeck expressed an interest <br />in assuming control of the Civil Defense Department when Lee <br />Nuzie retires. Mr. Nuzie plans to retire November 30, 1983 <br />and I have deliberately not filled the vacant position of <br />Assistant Civil Defense Director. In addition, there are one <br />and a half clerical positions in the department. <br />I asked Sheriff Dobeck to submit a proposal to the Commis- <br />sion outlining the advantages, disadvantages and cost savings <br />of relocating the department. Hopefully, this proposal can be <br />scheduled for the November 2nd meeting. <br />HM <br />
