He believed there are ways trees can be <br />protected through proper drainage and possibly bulkheaded <br />walls, which could be a landscaping asset. <br />Commissioner Lyons wished to know if this ordinance is <br />broad enough to include protection of trees after <br />construction as well as during construction. <br />Environmental Planner Challacombe reported that he and <br />Urban Forester Paul Palmiotto looked at this problem in <br />terms of the landscape ordinance, and if a developer uses a <br />tree to complete a portion of his landscape ordinance <br />requirements, he will have to keep that tree alive and <br />healthy for at least one year. <br />Commissioner Lyons had a question in regard to the <br />statement on Page 244 that any permit will remain valid for <br />six months and will be renewable for successive six month <br />periods. He felt this should be limited and possibly only <br />renewable for one six month period. <br />Discussion followed as to saying that a permit may be <br />renewable for "a" successive six month period, and it was <br />generally agreed this was preferable. <br />Commissioner Bowman again brought up the new septic <br />tank regulations requiring additional fill, and wondered if <br />we are making a mistake in exempting single family lots <br />under one acre in size from these regulations. <br />Planning Manager Keating noted that if single family <br />lots were not exempted, he did not have sufficient staff to <br />ensure that the ordinance would be carried out adequately. <br />Chairman Bird wished to be sure we weren't being overly <br />restrictive to someone who just wanted to do some light <br />underbrushing and wanted to know what exactly is involved in <br />obtaining a permit in addition to paying the fee. <br />Attorney Paull explained that if someone just cuts down <br />underbrush and is not removing any trees, there is an <br />90 <br />NOV 16 1983 gQ°K r�� I <br />
