F, <br />FES <br />1984 <br />[5 6 <br />PAA*3 <br />mile <br />long and contained all within the subdivision, <br />which <br />was approved in 1974. <br />Administrator Wright felt we had almost the same <br />situation last year in Shadowbrook, and Mr. Davis informed <br />the Board that staff did help the people in Shadowbrook get <br />a contractor and worked with them to assure they were <br />getting a proper road, but have taken a hands-off position <br />in regard to taking on maintenance of the road. <br />Commissioner Bird asked for the Public Works Director's <br />professional point of view about accepting such a road. <br />Mr. Davis stated that this road is a substandard road, <br />and it definitely does not benefit the general public. We <br />have many subdivisions which would fall into_ this same <br />situation, and he would hate to set a precedent of accepting <br />such streets when he does not feel our budget can handle <br />that kind of addition. Mr. Davis felt if the County could <br />provide some technical assistance to the residents of Apple <br />Way in preparing a scope of work and monitor the work for <br />them, that would save them something. <br />Discussion ensued as to the County's responsibility at <br />the time this road was originally built. Mr. Davis did not <br />believe that the County had an engineering department in <br />1974, but noted that we did, however, inspect private <br />subdivisions and there should have been a final inspection <br />and test -report submitted to go with the recommendation for <br />final approval. <br />Administrator Wright reported that he found no docu- <br />mentation at all in the file regarding this subdivision <br />except a plat. <br />Discussion continued at length as to under what circum- <br />stances we would accept such a road, what we have done in <br />other subdivisions with similar dead end streets, how the <br />road could be brought up to County standards, whether or not <br />49 <br />I <br />
