M M <br />total tax levy has increased less than three times. <br />Commissioner Wodtke was very interested in the good statis- <br />tical figures supplied in this report, many of which he had <br />never seen before. <br />Chairman Scurlock agreed that the information provided <br />by the Finance Department is unbelievably helpful. For <br />instance, it shows that with the great increase we have had <br />in population, our school population only went up by a <br />relatively small amount, which clearly shows the type people <br />moving to the County. The Chairman believed these <br />statistical figures show us what is consistent and that is <br />the kind of information that can help the Commission make <br />future decisions in a better way. <br />Finance Director Fry stated that if there is any <br />additional statistical information the Board feels would be <br />useful, he will try to find it and include it in the next <br />report. <br />Chairman Scurlock asked for statistical information on <br />the mobile home community. <br />Commissioner Wodtke believed the square mileage figure <br />given for the County of 497 should be checked since Planning <br />has a figure of 523 square miles. He then discussed the <br />necessity to 'reply to the comments made in the audit within <br />20 days and wished to know exactly what responsibility the <br />Board of County Commissioners has in relation to the <br />comments made to the Constitutional Officers. Do we have to <br />see that the recommendations made to them are addressed? <br />Attorney Brandenburg explained that under the law the <br />County is given the responsibility to set up the team of <br />people who choose the accountants and make sure they do a <br />thorough job and submit a report to meet the statute.
