MAY <br />BOOK <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. <br />The Motion was voted on and carried <br />unanimously (4-0). <br />5& P:'A 848 <br />Commissioner Lyons suggested that we ask for proposals <br />from construction management firms to see if we can obtain a <br />guaranteed cost and perhaps squeeze a little more out of <br />that $3.6 million figure. <br />Chairman Scurlock wished to see a variety of options <br />and had some concerns about going with a construction <br />management firm. He felt very strongly that there is no way <br />we can build a jail without experiencing any problems. <br />Commissioner Lyons felt that if we are going to go with <br />a construction management firm, then we should go with them <br />right away because that's where the advantage is. <br />Commissioner Bird agreed with going ahead with soliciting <br />proposals, and was assured by Chairman Scurlock that the <br />Finance Advisory Committee will study all financing alternatives. <br />Mr. Bail urged the Commission to go to the construction <br />management firm as soon as possible because that is when <br />they are most helpful. Administrator Wright felt it would <br />take 45 days to get somebody on board and Commissioner Lyons <br />reported that it was the recommendation of the Jail Committee <br />to explore the possibility of hiring a construction management <br />firm. He felt we should go ahead and get proposals. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, <br />SECONDED by Commissioner Wodtke, that the <br />Board authorize staff to advertise for proposals <br />from construction management firms, evaluate the <br />proposals and come back to the Commission with a <br />report as soon as possible. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Wodtke asked if we had <br />any other way of getting a consultant on the job without a <br />52 <br />
