MAY 16 1994 BOOK 57 PAGE 110 <br />Commissioner Lyons' Motion died for lack of a second. <br />Administrator Wright emphasized that we do need to <br />appoint someone, and he felt staff could come back with a <br />recommendation, possibly a staff member, who could vote the <br />Board's wishes. <br />Commissioner Wodtke personally felt that a Commissioner <br />needs to sit on the District Board. <br />After further discussion, it was decided to defer this <br />appointment until the next Board meeting. <br />TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COMMITTEE <br />Commissioner Lyons deferred his report on the <br />Transportation Planning Committee until the next meeting. <br />CONTROVERSY OVER NAME CHANGE OF ORCHID ISLAND <br />Commissioner Lyons reported that a great deal of <br />interest has been shown and correspondence received in <br />regard to retaining the name of Orchid Island for the entire <br />barrier island from Sebastian Inlet to Fort Pierce Inlet. <br />If historically the correct name for this island is indeed <br />Orchid Island, then Commissioner Lyons felt we should see <br />that it is so noted and take whatever steps are necessary to <br />get it into the maps and geography so that is isn't renamed <br />"willy-nilly" from time to time. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Bird for purpose of discussion, <br />to ask the Scenic Roads and Trails Committee, to <br />work with the historians of this County and come <br />back with a recommendation of what the island <br />should or should not be named and then take steps <br />to make it an official name. <br />Commissioner Bird wondered if we really need to go to <br />that step. <br />He noted that he does not like the name of <br />77 <br />
