TO: The Honorable Members of DATE: February 26, 1985 FILE: <br />the Board of County <br />Commissioners <br />THRU: Michaelt SUBJECT: Radio Tower for <br />County Adm'ni rator County -Wide Communications <br />FROM: sonny D <br />Directo REFERENCES: <br />General Services <br />Indian River County governmental entities are presently utilizing <br />several antenna sites for two-way radio communications. These <br />include County Administration Building, 120' tower at Hobart Park, <br />Vero Beach Water Tower, The Spires, and Sheriff's tower at the County <br />Nail. These various locations present problems such as lack of <br />` security, maintenance of several towers, and inadequate height to <br />name a few. <br />In order to eliminate these problems, Staff contacted each, <br />governmental body and proposed a centrally located tower with <br />adequate height and structure to accommodate their antenna as <br />specified. If they participated, each one would be assessed an <br />amount of money based on what was applicable to their use. The <br />following results were received in written form: <br />1: <br />City of Sebastian <br />$ 5,000 <br />2. <br />Indian River <br />County Sheriff <br />$20,000 <br />3. <br />Indian River <br />School Board <br />$ 5,000 <br />4. <br />Indian River <br />Volunteer Ambulance Squad <br />$ 5,000 <br />5. <br />North County <br />Fire District <br />$15,000 <br />$5 -0,0 0 0 <br />To complete the project as proposed, it is estimated to cost <br />approximately $65,000. The difference will be made up by <br />construction of the required building by our Building Operations <br />Department and funds from Emergency Management. Sheriff Dobeck <br />indicated in his letter of'intent that he would help also. <br />Application for permit has been made to erect the tower at Hobart <br />Park. A location has been spotted and site plans drawn. <br />Based on the above data it is requested the Board grant permission to <br />bid the tower as soon as all permits are received. <br />Director Dean explained that each entity would have their <br />own space on the tower at a certain height. He believed that <br />everyone approached thought this was a good idea and was eager to <br />participate.
