J. Proclamation - Peace River Electric Cooperative_ Inc_ <br />Commissioner Wodtke inquired how this firm helped develop <br />Indian River County, and Attorney Brandenburg explained that they <br />supplied electricity to Blue Cypress Lake when the Fish Camp was <br />established. <br />ON MOTION BY Commissioner Wodtke, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously issued <br />the following proclamation recognizing the 50th <br />anniversary of the Rural Electric Administration. <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, the year 1985 commemorates the 50th anniversary of <br />the creation of the national program of rural electrification, <br />begun with the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) in <br />1935= and <br />WHEREAS, the spectacular success of rural electric systems <br />in the State of Florida is part of the compelling and dramatic <br />story of rural electrification nationwide; and <br />WHEREAS, the-- leadership role played by the Peace River <br />Electric Cooperative, Inc, in nurturing the early growth and <br />development of Indian River County's rural electric systems is an <br />accomplishment to reflect upon with pride; and <br />WHEREAS, Peace River Electric Cooperative, Inc. continues to <br />provide electric service to over 30,000 Central Florida <br />residents; and <br />WHEREAS, this 50th anniversary observance provides an <br />unparalleled opportunity to place in perspective and recall for <br />the State's citizens the rich history and contributions of this <br />association and its members to the economic and social <br />advancement of Indian River County's rural areas; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA recognizes this <br />50th anniversary of the creation of the Rural Electric <br />Administration and the successes of rural electrification as it <br />has been brought to Indian River County, Florida. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />B <br />Patrick B.L s Chairman <br />ATTEST: <br />Freda Wright, erk <br />17 <br />BOOK f'E7 <br />
