Fr_ -MAY 22 1985 <br />BOO <br />PROCLAMATION - "ALL-AMERICAN BUCKLE -UP WEEK" <br />61 PAGE 18 <br />Commissioner Lyons read the following proclamation aloud: <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />WHEREAS, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of <br />death for persons under forty years of age and the third leading <br />cause of death for people of all ages; and <br />WHEREAS, "All-American Buckle -Up" is an event designed to <br />challenge motorists to develop the safety belt habit during the <br />week of May 23-30, 1985, in the hope that life-long life saving <br />habits will be formed; and <br />WHEREAS, if every Florida driver and passenger would wear <br />his safety belt during every trip in a car during that period, an <br />estimated 37 lives could be saved, 1,800 injuries could be <br />prevented and $8.2 million accident costs could be saved; and <br />WHEREAS, this second annual safety belt public awareness <br />campaign is being actively promoted in Florida and her sister <br />states and is deemed critically important in our continuing <br />efforts to educate the motoring public on the benefits of <br />;i occupant restraint systems; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA hereby designates <br />May 23-30, 1985 as: <br />"ALL-AMERICAN BUCKLE -UP WEEK" <br />in Florida, and urges all citizens to become more aware of the <br />life saving potential afforded by the use of safety belts on <br />every trip taken in a motor vehicle on our highways. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RI ER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />A B.
