Our County population projections further <br />indicate the increasing need for more public golf facilities in <br />the County. <br />We believe a public golf course would have considerable <br />additional economic, social, as well as recreational benefits to <br />the residents of the County and would certainly be a major <br />portion of a well rounded County recreational program. <br />Based on our report, and other information and data collected to <br />date, we urge you to accept our recommendation and proceed <br />immediately toward planning and construction of this much needed <br />public golf course in Indian River County. <br />The members of the Committee appreciate the confidence placed in <br />them by their appointments to this Committee, and appreciate the <br />opportunity to be of service to the County Commission. <br />Respectfully submitted by the <br />Golf Course Feasibility Study Committee <br />Richard N. Many other individuals and organizations <br />wrote letters of support, including Dr. Burns, Superintendent of <br />the School District, Charles Ranson, President of the Kiwanis <br />Club, and Tom Buchanan, President of the Vero Beach Chapter of <br />the AARP. Mr. Fanaro spoke of his belief in the need for a <br />County golf course, not only for the retirees but for the young <br />people of the county, and also stressed that after being dubious, <br />he was now comfortable that the statistics prove it is feasible. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Bird, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Scurlock, that the County proceed immedi- <br />ately with the planning and development of an 18 hole <br />regulation golf course at Kiwanis-Hobart Park, and that <br />staff be instructed to continue to develop financing <br />options and bring back recommendations to the Board for <br />42 <br />
