K. Bid - Valves, etc. for Elevated Water Tanks <br />The Board reviewed memo of Assistant Utilities Director <br />Baird and attached letter from the Consulting Engineers: <br />TO: THE HONORABLE BOARD OF DATE: AUGUST 8, 193n <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />THRU: TERRANCE G. PINT SUBJECT: BID FOR INSTALLATION OF <br />ALTITUDE VALVES AND <br />APPURTENANCES FOR THE <br />500,000 GALLON ELEVATED <br />WATER TALAR <br />FROM: JOSEP A. BAIRD <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITInTT- <br />The new Route 60 Elevated Water Tank is higher in elevation than <br />the existing water tanks on the south water system. In order for <br />the existing tanks to function properly, altitude valves need to be <br />installed. <br />Indian River County advertised for bids on the installation of <br />altitude valves and appurtenances for the 500,000 gallon elevated <br />water tank and 150,000 gallon elevated water tank. Two bids were <br />received and opened at 10:00 A.M. on July 19, 1985. The bids were <br />as follows: <br />1. Collee Mechanical $46,140.00 <br />2. Nomad Construction $52,185.00 <br />ANALYSIS <br />The bids have been reviewed by the County's engineer of record for <br />the project, Sippel, Masteller, Lorenz & Hoover, Inc., and they <br />recommend that the bid be awarded to the lowest bidder, Collee <br />Mechanical, Inc. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />a <br />Staff recommends that the Honorable Board of County Commissioners <br />award the construction project to Collee Mechanical, Inc., and <br />authorize the use of monies from the Route 60 Water Project Fund. <br />Commissioner Bird asked if this is something that was part <br />of the normal routine of building this system or if it is <br />something that was somehow overlooked. <br />Director Pinto stated that this really was part of the <br />original design for the Route 60 system.
