6.2.1 Local Public Information Officer <br />In accordance with ESF #14 of the Indian River County <br />Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, a Public <br />Information Officer (PIO) will serve as the official <br />spokesperson of the Indian River County BCC in the event <br />of an emergency involving the release of hazardous <br />materials which requires the activation of the County EOC. <br />Release of information to the news media from any local <br />agency will be coordinated through the county PIO with the <br />approval of the Director of Emergency Services and/or <br />Chairman of the BCC. For hazardous materials incidents <br />which do not require the activation of the County EOC, the <br />PIO designated by the appropriate local jurisdiction within <br />Indian River County will release information to the news <br />media. <br />6.2.2 State Public Information Officer <br />The State Division of Emergency Management (DEM) will <br />provide a Public Information Officer who will work from the <br />local Emergency Operations Center or the DEM Press <br />Room, as appropriate. <br />6.2.3 Federal Public Information Officer <br />When federal agency resources are used, the State P.I.O. <br />will coordinate public information efforts with the federal <br />agency representative and appropriate state and local public <br />information representatives. <br />6.2.4 Facility Public Information Officer <br />The facility coordinator or designated PIO will serve as a <br />Public Information Officer in cooperation with the local PIO <br />and State PIO. <br />6.3 EMERGENCY NEWS FACILITIES <br />The county will provide space and equipment for media representatives <br />for the dissemination of information during an emergency. <br />Indian River County Emergency Plan for Hazardous Materials Page 41 <br />
