NOV 2 0 1995 BOOK 62 PAGE <br />Commissioner Wodtke noted that when the state took care of <br />these bridges, they used the operating or.higher load rating, and <br />now they are telling the County we must use the Lower rating. <br />Director Davis believed that the state feels they have a <br />more organized bridge inspection program and also feels they <br />maintain their structures better than most counties, many of <br />which don't even look at their bridges. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED <br />by Commissioner Wodtke to authorize Public Works <br />Director Davis to meet with the Citrus League and <br />the TPC and come back to the Board prior to the <br />deadline set by the DOT. <br />Chairman Lyons stated that, if in the opinion of Director <br />Davis there are any bridges that are unsafe, then he felt the <br />Citrus League can either use smaller trucks, find some other <br />alternative, or wait. If a bridge is actually unsafe, it should <br />be posted or closed. <br />Commissioner Wodtke believed that most of the 6 ton bridges <br />are posted already. <br />Director Davis advised that there are a couple which aren't <br />posted which have some problem - for instance, the South Relief <br />Canal bridge at 20th Avenue has been rated as a 25 ton bridge. <br />Administrator Wright did not believe that bridge would <br />affect any citrus operations. <br />Chairman Lyons asked how load weight limits can be enforced. <br />Director Davis explained that the state of Florida has the <br />authority to do this, and he believed some local governments do <br />it also with a portable scale - their Sheriff's Department <br />actually staffs people to monitor these trucks, and if they are <br />overweight, they fine them. <br />revenue producing. <br />In some counties this has been quite <br />48 <br />
