He wished they had a better projection to bring to <br />this county. <br />Chairman Scurlock questioned our potential to pass an <br />additional local gas tax for a specific project, and Mr. Fowler <br />confirmed that is possible and felt the whole trend is"going in <br />that direction. <br />Commissioner Bird brought up the mutual concerns about major <br />thoroughfares coming into the county, and Director Davis reported <br />that there have been mowing contracts let for most of 1-95, which <br />has freed up the county's three tractors that were used to mow <br />that stretch so we should be able to mow the other major roads <br />coming into the city about 6-8 times a year. <br />Chairman Scurlock asked the status of the Merrill -Barber <br />Bridge and the Twin Pair projects as many people have been asking <br />why we were doing bridge maintenance when we may need to go to <br />four lanes there. <br />Mr. Fowler explained that the bridge must have repairs until <br />the time comes when they either replace it or add two lanes; <br />unfortunately, that might not be for another five years. <br />Discussion ensued regarding the traffic impact study results <br />showing the county's acute need for two additional bridge lanes, <br />either at the Barber Bridge or further north, and Mr. Fowler <br />explained that the State has some flexibility to work with the <br />County on a plan for bridge improvements. <br />Commissioner Wodtke pointed out that the Sebastian State <br />Park at the Inlet is the most visited park in the state and <br />people travel the Wabasso Bridge. <br />Commissioner Lyons emphasized the growing problem with U.S. <br />#1 with respect to keeping the traffi:c at Level C, and Mr. Fowler <br />expected the results of a consultant's study in 18 months or so <br />that will provide ball park figures on what it will cost for each <br />county's stretch of the U.S. #1 corridor. <br />44 <br />L_ JAN 2 2 1986.
