BALANCING OF HVAC SYSTEM FOR NEW JAIL <br />General Services Director Dean reviewed the following memo; <br />TO: The Honorable Members ofDATE: February 4 , 1986 FILE: <br />the Board of County <br />Commissioners <br />THRU: Michael Wright <br />County Administrator <br />H. T. "Son Dean <br />FROM: Director <br />General Servic s <br />SUBJECT: Balancing of HVAC System <br />for new jail <br />REFERENCES: <br />As recommended by W.R. Frizzell Architects, Inc., the subject work <br />was deleted from the original general contractors contract. <br />According to the architect we could get a better price and a quality <br />job by proceeding this way. <br />At the time this discussion took place, Mr. Tom Pinkerton estimated <br />the price to do this work would be in the neighborhood of $16,000'- <br />$18,000 <br />16,000- <br />$18,000 for buildings A and B. In fact, the subcontractor gave en <br />add-on of $20,000 for this work. Since we were in the process of <br />constructing Phase II (Building C) of the jail project, it was <br />decided to include that portion in subbing proposals. Mr. Ben <br />DiPalma, Vice -President of W.R. Frizzell Architects, Inc. and Project <br />Director for the Indian River County Jail, was assigned to -seek - <br />proposals from reputable firms. <br />Mr. DiPalma's recommendation is to allow Future Controls, Inc. to <br />perform this work at a guaranteed price of $9,4P 60. According to him <br />this is a very reputable firm which does quality work. <br />It is recommended by staff to authorize W.R. Frizzell Architects, <br />Inc. to contract the subject work with Future Controls, Inc., and be <br />responsible for seeing the work is properly done since our County <br />personnel does not have expertise in this area. <br />This procedure has been approved by our legal staff. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, to authorize Frizzell Architects <br />to contract with Future Controls, Inc., for the work <br />described and for Frizzell Architects to be responsible <br />for seeing the work is properly done. <br />Commissioner Wodtke wished to be sure we get a job that will <br />work, and not a $9,000 job that won't work. <br />Commissioner Bowman noted it actually is $9,900. <br />51 <br />BOOK 63 F{ 6A <br />
