He emphasized <br />that you cannot dump septage in a pasture and the only approved <br />place to dump septage is at the Landfill. <br />Lawrence Adams, Jr., Vice President of Camp Dresser & McKee, <br />Inc., spoke from his seat and advised that their consultant's <br />report on the master study for treatment and disposal would be <br />ready by the end of June. <br />Commissioner Wodtke pointed out that there are thousands of <br />septic tanks in this county and felt we need to do everything we <br />can to make sure reliable service is available through local <br />firms. <br />Chairman Scurlock hoped for the environment's sake that we <br />get to a point where we no longer need septic tanks in this <br />county. <br />Mr. Bruns again asked about the St. Lucie dumpers, and <br />Director Pinto suggested franchising that type of collection the <br />same as trash and other waste. <br />County Attorney Vitunac suggested putting a fee on anyone <br />pumping out septic tanks whether they dump it here or somewhere <br />else. <br />Commissioner Lyons asked how that could be administrated, <br />and Director Pinto felt that the County could require residents <br />to obtain a permit before having their septic systems cleaned and <br />that would trigger the dumping charge. <br />Mr. Bruns remained worried about St. Lucie dumpers putting <br />him out of business. <br />Mike Galanis also felt a permit would be feasible, but <br />Commissioner Bird preferred to franchise the dumpers. <br />Commissioner Lyons suggested giving this to the Utilities <br />Dept and the County Attorney's Office to handle as quickly as <br />possible to see that we don't give the out -of -county haulers an <br />unfair advantage. <br />Attorney Vitunac suggested that this could be a discussion <br />matter for the newly formed Tri -County Committee. <br />24 <br />MAR 19 1986 BOOR 63 FAIJE 909 <br />
