Transit Planning and Performance <br />The MPO performs all planning, grant funding, invoicing, and Transportation Disadvantaged program <br />administration functions for the Indian River Transit GoLine. GoLine is the fare -free, 15 fixed route system providing <br />1 2 Million Annual Trips, more than transit systems in regions several times the size of Indian River County According <br />to the National Transit Database, maintains the lowest cost per passenger among ALL cities in the State of Florida. <br />Both the MPO and Transit System have been recognized as Outstanding Planning Agency and Outstanding System <br />by the State Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged TD Committee Vice Chairman and CAC member <br />William Parden, a disabled advocate, has been named Volunteer of the Year for the State of Florida. GoLine has a <br />private sector sponsored route and runs the only inter -county regional transit service on the Treasure Coast. <br />IMPLEMENTATION <br />The MPO has written and obtained multiple grants and committed Flexible Highway Funding to implement the Trans - <br />Central Florida Rail Trail project. MPO Staff has coordinated architectural review to change proposed standard design <br />and ensure trail overpass design evocative of railroad history. <br />Staff has conducted innovative and participatory outreach efforts involving local school groups, running groups, <br />seniors, the disabled, and cycling clubs. The MPO also arranged for the local Middle School Band to perform at the <br />trail opening and scripted an historical reenactment performed by children during the ribbon cutting. <br />COORDINATION <br />Bike Friendly Community <br />In 2015, Indian River County was designated the only Bicycle Friendly County in the State of Florida by the League of <br />American Bicyclists. This designation came about as a result of partnership efforts between the MPO and local <br />cycling groups. Also, the MPO has the only LAB -Certified Bike Ped Coordinator among all MPOs in the state. <br />Gifford Community <br />Neighborhood Plan <br />In 2014 and 2015, staff <br />facilitated Community <br />Workshops in the Gifford <br />neighborhood, an <br />historically African- <br />American Transportation <br />Disadvantaged <br />Community. <br />The MPO successfully wrote grant applications totaling approximately $2 Million for Martin Luther King Boulevard <br />complete street redevelopment (shown above, before and after) and MLK Historic Trail construction (below). <br />Spearheaded design and implementation of improvements currently under construction, scheduled for opening at <br />Martin Luther King parade in January of 2016. <br />3 <br />
