• The State of Florida mandates a specific measure for Kindergarten Readiness. <br /> This year's measure was to be built of two separate scores. However, the state <br /> stopped one assessment due to challenges in administration. The readiness <br /> data this year is incomplete as it is based solely upon a work sampling system. <br /> The state has not set a readiness rate but if we look at the data provided and <br /> designate the children who scored in the "proficient range" and select the top half <br /> of the scores in the "in progress" range we can create a "readiness" score. <br /> Based on that criteria we had 89% of the children whose parents attended one or <br /> more classes between the two school years, 2012-13 and.2013-14, demonstrate <br /> readiness for kindergarten. This data is based on 37 children. <br /> Outcome # 2: Parent surveys will show a significant increase in the frequency of <br /> appropriate parent interactions with their child at the end of one year of parent <br /> training. <br /> Parents took pre-survey and post surveys. The data collected from the classes <br /> completed showed an increase in the frequency of times an adult read with the child <br /> and an increase in the frequency of times that an adult played learning games with the <br /> child. <br /> • There was a 10% increase in the number of parents who played a learning game with their <br /> child 5 or more times a week. <br /> • The survey showed a 9% increase in the number of parents who read with their child five or <br /> more times a week. <br /> Other Learnings: <br /> Parents are our children's first teacher. Developmental milestones from 0-5 are clear <br /> regarding how to ensure children arrive academically and social/emotionally ready. <br /> Ready! for K has great content. The cultural challenge, the nation and we are facing, is <br /> how do we change culture in all socio economic levels to recognize that school starts at <br /> birth and you are your child's first and most important teacher. For our low socio <br /> economic target families, our challenge is in building a delivery vehicle that better meets <br /> their needs. The classes offered over the last 3 years have taught us several things. <br /> • Word of mouth is the best way to get more families to attend. Going forward we <br /> would call each registered family and encourage them to register a friend and <br /> perhaps have a drawing for everyone who invited another family. <br /> • We have learned that it is important to provide teachers who are members of <br /> the community. Parents were grateful to have the opportunity to interact with their <br /> neighbors during dinner and the children were supervised by many adults that <br /> they knew. Going forward we will use these community members to be the <br /> - 32 - <br /> 150 <br />
