U�. ,:dP <br />R117ER COUIVTY <br />I appreciate the meeting this afternoon with regard to our new <br />Sheriff's Administration Building and making me aware of a <br />problem I did not know existed. <br />During the last two (2) years I have made every attempt to work <br />closely with Administrator Wright with regard to providing him <br />information concerning all facets of construction and/or any <br />other information concerning the building of our new facility. <br />It is apparent to me, by the information I have received, that <br />the Commissioners were not aware, nor was I, until now, the true <br />and acutal costs provided by C. E. Block, Architect, of the new <br />Sheriff's Administration Building. Nor do I know how this figure <br />was derived in the report from M. G. Lewis and Company, Inc. It <br />is apparent, that shortly after receiving this document, that <br />Administrator Wright received a letter from C. E. Block dated <br />January 10, 1986 outlining eleven (11) different items at a pro- <br />jected cost of $2,600,000. It is obvious that the Commissioners <br />should have been immediately informed at that time that there was <br />a substantial shortfall in funding for the new facility. <br />Tentative plans for the current building were approved by the <br />Commissioners December 11, 1985; therefore, I see no reason this <br />amount in the January 10 letter should have been kept from the <br />Commissioners. <br />This incident is just one in a series of problems we have experi- <br />enced during the last several years with Mr. Wright. Although, <br />they were not major and were ultimately resolved in one fashion <br />or another, this is probably the most prominent that will cost <br />the tax payers of Indian River County. These substantial defi- <br />ciencies cannot be covered by the veil of a simple mistake. <br />Again, I commend you for being fully aware of all financial mat- <br />ters pertinent to the County. As Sheriff, I will make every <br />effort to assist you in lessening the burden on the tax payers, <br />as a result of this shortfall. <br />If I may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to con- <br />tact me. <br />Since ly, <br />R.
