The Chairman asked that there be discussion of a workshop on <br />the deficits. <br />Commissioner Bird appreciated all this information being <br />gathered, agreed we have some major decisions to make, and felt - <br />the Commission will come together and make them and work the <br />situation out as we always have in the past. He felt the major <br />thing we are faced with now is the Sheriff's complex and <br />communications center. We allocated a certain amount of money to <br />build that facility, which we so far haven't committed funds to <br />and haven't awarded contracts on, and it is coming in consider- <br />ably over that budget. He did not know that we can blame the <br />former Administrator or put the blame on any one individual for <br />that, but felt it is just something that has snowballed on us, <br />and we are going to have to get a handle on it. <br />Chairman Scurlock stated that he would not buy the statement <br />that this has just snowballed on us; the Administrator had known <br />this for a long, long time, and the fact is that this all has <br />gotten out of hand because the information was withheld. He has <br />the letter right here where the Sheriff states that this cannot <br />be considered just some "simple mistake." Chairman Scurlock <br />stressed that he has done his homework and worked hard and has <br />sat here for the last year doubling his time because of the <br />problems that began to arise, and he would specifically suggest <br />they are a direct situation resulting from the withholding of <br />information from himself and the Board of County Commissioners. <br />Chairman Scurlock noted that he is trying to be a gentlemen and <br />let Mr. Wright go in a reasonable way; he was a good administra- <br />tor for three years, but then these problems started cropping up. <br />He can document them for the past year, and he will have his day <br />in court if he is forced to it. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that he was just saying that he did <br />not think that Administrator Wright sat down individually with <br />the architect and told him what size to make the facility and all <br />the things to put in it and all the goodies that have been <br />40 BOOK FAEE6P�� <br />JUN 4 19x6 6 4 <br />
