that he has talked to the owners of three day care centers in <br />that general area who said that they are operating under <br />capacity, and he, therefore, believed that not only was the child <br />care center not wanted, it was not needed. <br />Mrs. Turner argued that there was a need for a day care <br />center in this area, and pointed out that enrollment usually <br />drops in the summer months. She felt that the section of the <br />ordinance which requires day care centers to be located on an <br />arterial road should be amended, but Commissioner Lyons <br />emphasized that the main problem is that they are too close to <br />the intersection. He felt that although they have a fine looking <br />project, it is in the wrong place. <br />Louise Roberts, 1705 18th Avenue, stated that she has been a <br />day care teacher in the area for 11 years and is very familiar <br />with drop off and pick up patterns. She pointed out that an <br />enrollment of 79 children would generate approximately 50 <br />vehicles coming and going twice a day and believed there is just <br />no way to mitigate this problem. <br />Tabi Johnston, 1925 12th Street, owner of the residence <br />right next door to the proposed facility, stressed that she would <br />not allow her two children to walk through this intersection on <br />their way to school if this day care center goes in. <br />Richard Hassell; 1150 20th Avenue, noted that he and his <br />wife can hear the football games and the marching band at the <br />high school in addition to the children playing on the grounds of <br />Citrus Elementary School.
