Sylvester Bruce McIntosh <br />WHEREAS, Sylvester Bruce McIntosh was born on June 27, 1947, in Wabasso, Florida, and <br />WHEREAS, in 1966, shortly after graduating from Gifford High School, Sylvester McIntosh refused a <br />scholarship to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and joined the United States Marine Corps, and <br />WHEREAS, Sylvester McIntosh served as a Corporal in the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines during the Vietnam <br />War, which endured the longest sustained combat and suffered the highest lolled -in -action rate in Marine Corps history, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, on May 13, 1967, Sylvester McIntosh was shot in the chest and, despite his injury, rescued three of <br />his fellow Marines and received the Purple Heart for this injury, and <br />WHEREAS, after his service in the military, Sylvester McIntosh worked for the United States Postal Service for <br />almost 30 years and became heavily involved in Christian ministry, and <br />WHEREAS, Sylvester McIntosh has been a minister, bishop, and pastor for over 30 years, and earned a <br />doctoral degree in religious education that assists him in training young men and women around the state to enter the <br />clergy, and <br />WHEREAS, Sylvester McIntosh married Dorothy Lee Davidson in 1967, and they are blessed with four <br />children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and three of these descendants are currently serving in the <br />military, and <br />WHEREAS, on January 30, 2016, Sylvester McIntosh was awarded the Silver Star for his gallantry in action <br />under heavy enemy fire during the Vietnam War, NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESPECTFULLY PROCLAIMED that Sylvester Bruce McIntosh is honored for his valor, commitment, <br />and service to his country and community. <br />Debbie Mayfield <br />Representative, District 54 <br />3-2 <br />
