5E <br />PROCLAMATION <br />HONORING KATHRYN ARMSTRONG WILSON <br />WHEREAS, Kathryn Armstrong Wilson was born and proceeded to complete her public education in Miami -Dade <br />County, Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, Kathryn attended Florida A and M University in Tallahassee, Florida, where she earned her <br />Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and later her Master's Degree in Education Leadership and Reading, <br />afterward becoming a reading demonstration teacher for the district; and <br />WHEREAS, Kathryn gave back to her community, rising through the ranks in the Indian River County public <br />school system as a teacher at Gifford Elementary, Citrus Elementary, and Osceola, and then as the first African American <br />female to serve as the full time Principal in Indian River County at Highlands Elementary; and <br />WHEREAS, Kathryn was appointed to the position of Superintendent's Administrative Assistant and then as <br />Interim Superintendent through the Board of Education; and <br />WHEREAS, in her spare time, Kathryn enjoys reading and traveling extensively throughout the United States and <br />the world, including South Africa, the Caribbean, and England ; and <br />WHEREAS, Kathryn is the current President of the Hanna Cromartie Missionary Society, as well as Steward at <br />Allen Chapel AME Church in Wabasso; and <br />WHEREAS, Kathryn is a member of -several prestigious organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, <br />Incorporated, the Links Incorporated, FAMU Alumni Association, the Indian River County Retired Teachers Association, <br />and Mays High School Alumni Association; and <br />and WHEREAS, Kathryn has made great strides as a leader in the African American community in public education, <br />WHEREAS, Kathryn is the proud wife of Coach Bill Wilson, mother to Billy Wilson, Assistant Principal at <br />Sebastian River High School, and Yolanda Wilson Lucas, the Physical Education teacher at Osceola Magnet School, and <br />the very proud grandmother to William, IV, Wesley, and Brandi. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Proclamation recognizes the historic accomplishments of Kathryn Armstrong <br />Wilson in civil rights and education who will be forever revered as a pioneer to African Americans for generations to come. <br />Duly adopted this 161h day of February, 2016. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Bob Solari, Chairman <br />•� d �r� <br />Cipee E Ifle her, Vice Chairman <br />Z.� <br />Wesley S.
