Baird <br />OMB Director <br />BOOK <br />DATE: September 30, 1986 FILE: <br />SUBJECT: Building and Contents <br />Insurance <br />REFERENCES: <br />Florida League of Cities notified Indian River County that they were <br />unable to obtain building and contents insurance to be effective Wednesday, <br />October 1, 1986. The County's present building and contents insurance ex- <br />pires today, Tuesday, September 30, 1986. We have contacted the Hamilton - <br />Arden Insurance Agency, our current carrier, and they feel that the policy <br />may be able to be extended another year. <br />Staff would like authorization from the Honorable Board of County Com- <br />missioners to negotiate property and contents insurance as soon as possible. <br />Director Baird informed the Board that Hamilton Arden <br />Insurance is trying to get this coverage through our old carrier, <br />and Mr. Arden does not feel this should be a problem. <br />Discussion followed as to the cost of such insurance, and <br />Director Baird did not know the cost yet, but noted that last <br />year we estimated $115,298, which we felt was going to be high. <br />Chairman Scurlock expressed the hope that we take a look at <br />self-insurance, and Commissioner Bowman advised that this was <br />discussed at the last Tri -County Council meeting and they are <br />going to make a study of it. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Lyons, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, to authorize OMB Director Baird <br />to negotiate building and contents insurance coverage <br />and authorize the Chairman to sign. <br />118 <br />
