September 24, 1986 <br />SUBJECT: Sailboard Center Lease <br />FROM: Bruce Barket`tA,,', <br />Assistant County Attorney <br />On September 11 the Parks and Recreation Committee <br />recommended renewal of the lease of County property on the <br />Wabasso Causeway to the Sailboard Center. Two items must be <br />decided by the Board: <br />1. When the lease was first approved, the County required <br />the Sailboard Center to purchase insurance for $1,000,000.00 <br />aggregate coverage. The Sailboard Center has indicted that <br />it is unable to purchase insurance in this amount any longer <br />simply because carriers are not selling such policies. <br />Since Florida Statutes waive sovereign immunities only to <br />the ,extent of $100,000.00 per person/$200,000 per <br />occurrence, it is my recommendation that the Board reduce <br />the insurance requirement for the Sailboard Center to the <br />$300,000.00 combined single limit which the Center is able <br />to purchase. <br />2. The Committee recommended removal of a requirement that <br />the Sailboard.Center riot accept money on the Causeway. The <br />attached lease allows the Sailboard Center to lease -- <br />sailboards from the Causeway. <br />It is recommended that the lease be approved with the <br />revisions stated herein. <br />Chairman Scurlock stated that his concern is not with this <br />particular lease, but its ramifications as related to potential <br />additional requests. In addition, if we are talking about <br />establishing a business on that causeway, he was not sure $100 is <br />38 <br />
