MAR 2 4 198 BOOK 67 ['Alu 788 <br />Attorney Vitunac announced that Assistant County Attorney <br />Jim Wilson is leaving the County to fill the position of <br />Assistant City Attorney for the City of Vero Beach. <br />Attorney Wilson thanked the Board for giving him the <br />opportunity to work with the County for the last 3 years, and the <br />Commissioners wished him good luck in his new position. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, the Board unanimously instructed <br />the County Attorney not to replace the Assistant County <br />Attorney until such time as a workshop is held on the <br />organizational structure and needs of the County <br />Attorney's office, with the understanding that the <br />workshop be held as soon as possible. <br />REPORT ON FIREARMS RANGE COMMITTEE <br />Commissioner Bird reviewed the Committee's efforts during <br />the years in determining an appropriate site and advised that <br />they always come back to the Garcia Range site as the best <br />suitable location because it is the closest to Vero Beach, has a <br />paved road, and electricity is available. However, the drawback <br />to that site is that the St. Johns River Water Management <br />District's overall plans calls for it to be flooded with 2-3 feet <br />of water. The District's governing board indicated they would <br />help find us a site for the range, but were not too excited about <br />the Garcia Range site. While the Committee realizes that it <br />would be a very expensive site to develop because of the <br />necessary dikes that would have to be built, a majority still <br />feel that site would be the best location. <br />At a meeting of the District's Parks and Recreational <br />Recommendation Committee, he and Intergovernmental Relations <br />Director Tommy Thomas were instructed to look at more suitable <br />sites and bring them back at an advisory meeting to be held in <br />Melbourne this Thursday. <br />Right now, they are looking at the <br />119 <br />
