Box 127 <br />Sebastian, Florida 32958 <br />Dear Mayor Harris: <br />Suncom Telephone* 424-1011 <br />I was concerned and somewhat disappointed in an article I read in <br />the Press Journal dated Wednesday, April 8, 1987. In the <br />article it quoted members of the Sebastian Recreation Committee <br />as saying they were unhappy with the fees being charged to <br />Sebastian residents when participating in supervised North County <br />Recreation programs held at the Sebastian Municipal Center. <br />For your information, and that of the rest of the Council <br />members, I want to make sure everyone understands the situation. <br />The Board of County Commissioners are expending funds amounting <br />to $73,575 in fiscal year 86-87 to financially support the North <br />County Recreation Department.. This includes funds for capital <br />improvements as well as salaries for supervisory personnel. We <br />are happy to make these programs and recreational opportunities <br />available to all residents of the North County, including <br />residents of the City of Sebastian. The fees that are charged <br />are consistent throughout the North County and are primarily used <br />to pay the instructors who supervise the programs. The only <br />participation we have asked from the City of Sebastian is to use <br />the Sebastian Community building to house some of these programs. <br />I understand free programs are also available in the building, <br />and not all programs are charged for. I would like to point out <br />that in recent years, several thousand dollars have been expended <br />112 <br />
