general taxpayers money to operate, and the State feels that the <br />users of this park should bear part of that cost. Nevertheless, <br />theā¢Governor and Cabinet decided that there was some equity <br />involved in the position of the Inlet taxpayers and adopted a <br />policy that there would not be a charge for either admission or <br />parking at the Sebastian Inlet State Park. That policy is still <br />in effect and it is up for review with a strong recommendation <br />that it be rescinded to allow a standard admission fee on the <br />north side of the park. <br />Mr. Landrum advised that should the Governor and Cabinet <br />okay the fee at the north side at its June 16th meeting, the DNR <br />plans to ask the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County to remove the language in the deed restriction that <br />prohibits the charging of admission fees on the south side. They <br />feel that an admission fee should be charged for both sides of <br />the inlet. That has been the State's position from the very <br />outset, but they realize that it is up to the County Commission <br />to decide whether or not to remove the language in the deed <br />restriction. <br />Chairman Scurlock asked about the possibility of having a <br />admission fee structure that differentiates between Indian River <br />and Brevard County residents and those people who come from all <br />over the state and country. <br />Mr. Landrum advised that the Attorney General has said that <br />would not be legal and is contrary to their policy, but Chairman <br />Scurlock did not feel it would be unfair because we pay taxes <br />here and they don't. <br />Mr. Landrum pointed out that no other counties have <br />benefited more from State local assistance programs and grants <br />than Indian River and Brevard. <br />Commissioner Bird realized that while there is an impact on <br />the County's road system by the people using the park, there is <br />also an economic benefit to the county because many people come <br />19 Bua <br />MAY 12 `907 <br />
