MAY 12 M7 <br />68i)K 68 F'.UL. �tiJ <br />to this area primarily to use the park and spend a great deal of <br />money while they are here. <br />Commissioner Wheeler asked if the Inlet Taxing District <br />contributes anything to the operation, maintenance, or any <br />improvements in the park, and Mr. Landrum stressed that they do <br />not; they just pay for the maintenance of the inlet and the <br />jetty. <br />The facilities and the services provided by the park are paid for <br />entirely out of the State Park System budget. <br />Commissioner Wheeler asked if there are any areas other than <br />the lots provided by the park to park your car if you are only <br />going to fish off the jetty, and Mr. Landrum advised that there <br />is no area in the immediate vicinity other than those that are <br />provided as part of the park. <br />Chairman Scurlock suggested putting in parking meters, but <br />Mr. Landrum advised that the present policy of Governor and <br />Cabinet is not to charge a parking fee or an admission fee on the <br />north side of the park, but that policy will be coming up for a <br />vote at the June 16th meeting. <br />Chairman Scurlock felt that one of the main concerns is that <br />if the State is successful in charging a fee for the north side, <br />those people who do not wish to pay a fee will use the south side <br />of the park. <br />Mr. Landrum did not feel that a $1.00 fee for car and driver <br />would deter people from parking on the north side if they wished <br />to fish on the north jetty. <br />Commissioner Bird noted that there is a growing trend to go <br />to user fees for many services in this county, and pointed out <br />that Mr. Landrum and his department have been very cooperative in <br />working with Indian River County in helping us acquire beachfront <br />property through the "Save Our Coasts" program and providing <br />grant monies for the development of some oceanfront parks that we <br />already own.
