JUN 16 1987 <br />BOOK 68 Fx E 58 6 <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Bird, the Board unanimously ( 4-0) auth- <br />orized staff to proceed to secure the services of <br />a professional for the purpose of designing our <br />classification system and compensation plan. <br />DISCUSSION HOUSING AUTHORITY <br />County Attorney Vitunac informed the Board that he had <br />received a call from Representative Patchett. The good news is <br />that the extension for the Housing Authority loan has been <br />approved, but the other aspect was the Legislature was interested <br />in inquiring whether the County would consider taking over the <br />Housing Authority entirely and making it a county department. <br />Commissioner Wheeler stated that he would like to see staff <br />do a feasibility study of this. <br />Administrator Balczun respectfully requested that we at <br />least have some discussion with Representative Patchett on this <br />subject. He believed this is a proposal that is far reaching and <br />has great consequences. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Eggert, the Board unanimously (4-0) in- <br />structed staff to investigate in depth whether or <br />not the county should take over the Housing Author- <br />ity and report back. <br />DISCUSSION RE JAIL FUNDING <br />County Attorney Vitunac noted that he has sent to each <br />Commissioner a copy of a Motion to hold the county in contempt <br />for not complying with the Order we had with the D.O.C. <br />concerning overpopulation of the old jail. Our Consent Order <br />said we would build a new jail and it would solve the problem, <br />but the new jail has not solved the problem and, in fact, is <br />overcrowded all ready. The D.O.C. has been very nice about this <br />
