BOONEv <br />ENGINEERING OPERAT O S MANAGER <br />DIVISION OF UTILIT ERVICES <br />SUBJECT: INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BID #347 <br />TRACTOR WITH LOADER AND BACKHOE <br />The Division of Utility Services has recently solicited bids for a <br />tractor with loader and backhoe. Bids were received and opened on <br />May 27, 1987. A copy of the bid tabulation is attached for your <br />review. Prior to receiving the subject bid a new state contract was <br />awarded for the Ford Model 555B backhoe -loader. <br />ANALYSIS <br />The total cost of the backhoe, if purchased through the state <br />contract is less than that of the low bid of $31,345.00 submitted by <br />Berggren Equipment Company. Following is a summary of the Ford 555B <br />backhoe and features per the state contract. <br />Ford Model 555B tractor loader backhoe $22,475.00 <br />Multi-purpose (4 -in -1) loader bucket 2,306.00 <br />Hydraulically - extending backhoe dipper 2,036.00 <br />Front tires T1E ll.00x16,I1,10 ply NIC <br />Rear tires T33 16.9x28R4, 8 ply 158.00 <br />Self adjusting volume back-up alarm 82.00 <br />Total $27,057.00 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The Division of Utility Services recommends that the Board of County <br />Commissioner's reject all bids submitted for Indian River County Bid <br />#347. <br />Furthermore, the Division of Utility Services recommends that the <br />Board of County Commissioners authorize the purchase of the Ford <br />Model 555B tractor loader and backhoe from the state contract for <br />the amount of $27,057.00 The subject backhoe will be purchased <br />through fund 706. <br />Commissioner Eggert had a general question relating to <br />bidding procedure and policy. She noted that in this particular <br />instance, there is a considerable separation between the bids and <br />the state contract, but she wished to know what the policy is <br />when the prices are relatively close. <br />Chairman Scurlock believed the history has been that we like <br />to do business with local people if at all possible, but at times <br />-the state contract is so much less that we go with the state.
