REPORT ON HEARING ON JAIL SUIT <br />Attorney Vitunac informed the Board that he, Commissioner <br />Wheeler, the Administrator and four jail personnel, went to <br />Okeechobee and entered into a stipulated settlement with the DOC. <br />We have 60 days to come into compliance with the cap on prison- <br />ers. Failing that, the Chief Judge, the State's Attorney and the <br />Public Defender, will become a new Fast Track Committee and will <br />be empowered to let prisoners go who are not dangerous, or fail- <br />ing that, we will have to rent space in some jail. <br />TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE SUMMARY OF ACTIONS <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bowman, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Eggert, the Board unanimously accepted the <br />following TPC Summary of Actions for the record. <br />i <br />TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COMMITTEE <br />SUMMARY OF ACTIONS <br />July 8, 1987 MEETING <br />1. Indian River Boulevard <br />James Davis informed the Committee that an application for <br />joint funding of Phase II with the FDOT has been approved in <br />the amount of $286,000. Phase II should be opened in <br />August, 1987. <br />2. 49th Street Truck Traffic <br />Walter Jackson discussed problems with heavy truck traffic <br />on 49th Street and requested a sidewalk between 35th Avenue <br />and 43rd Avenue. <br />3. 41st Street and 45th Street sidewalks <br />Walter Jackson asked about the status of sidewalks approved <br />as part of the Gifford Road Improvement project. <br />4. Intersection study - 8th Street at 20th Avenue <br />The Committee recommended approval of a report submitted by <br />staff for the construction of left -turn lanes and a traffic <br />signal. <br />5. Joint -use Canal and Roadway Right-of-way <br />Staff informed the Committee of a July 2, 1987 meeting with <br />the Indian River Farms Water Management District concerning <br />the use of canal right-of-way for road purposes.
