a;F <br />NOV I el 1987 BOOK 70i <br />elevated parking structure that is designed to look like an <br />office building. <br />Commissioner Eggert added that we also have several church <br />parking lots in the downtown area which we could lease. <br />Mr. Boling showed overlays of a 35,000 sq. ft. and 50,000 <br />sq. ft. facility on both the Grace Lutheran block and the Catron <br />site. <br />Slide 1 - Grace Lutheran <br />Mr. Boling noted that with a 35,000 sq. ft. facility, there <br />would be 46 parking spaces with a 2 -way drive running north and <br />south off 21st Street, with the remaining area in green space. <br />He pointed out the offsite parking space that might be available. <br />He next showed the 50,000 sq. ft. overlay, and emphasized that a <br />facility of this size would take up most of the block with no <br />space.for parking. <br />The Board discussed the possibility of having a 2 -story, <br />35,000 sq. ft. facility with parking on the first level and <br />reinforced construction for an elevator. <br />Commissioner Bowman understood that when you build a <br />library, it is for 40 years, and questioned whether we are <br />talking about a 35,000 sq. ft. or 50,000 sq. ft. facility for <br />future needs. <br />Mr. Boling explained that would depend on whether we are <br />talking about all the parking being on-site. <br />Commissioner Eggert advised that considering the general <br />population and operating costs, the general preference of the <br />Public Library Advisory Board is for a one-story facility. <br />Commissioner Wheeler wanted to see comparison figures on <br />land costs vs. construction costs for a multiple -level facility <br />with street level parking. <br />Commissioner Eggert stated that she would be very surprised <br />if the $5.9 million bond issue could cover the costs of a <br />2 -story, 50,000 sq. ft. building with reinforced construction to <br />P1.1 <br />
