Chairman Scurlock did not see how we can write a letter if <br />we don't even know what the City program is. <br />Commissioner Bowman advised that they are asking the DNR for <br />$100,000 to do a study of the reefs and the sand source. <br />The Chairman stated that he can see the need for the study, <br />but was not ready to take a position on the actual physical <br />rehabilitation of our beaches. <br />Commissioner Eggert believed most of the Vero Beach Council <br />members agree the studies are needed. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bowman, SECONDED by Commis- <br />sioner Eggert, the Board unanimously authorized the <br />Chairman to write a letter to Governor Martinez urging <br />the funding of the studies. <br />CENTER FOR THE ARTS GRANT <br />Commissioner Eggert reviewed the following: <br />TO: Board of County DATE: February 25, 1988 FILE: <br />Commissioners <br />FROM: Carolyn K. Eggert <br />Commissioner <br />SUBJECT: Center for the Arts Grants <br />REFERENCES: <br />The Center for the Arts has applied for four grants. <br />•order of priority they are: <br />1. Artist -in -Residence Arts in Education <br />2. Annual Florida Competitive Exhibition <br />3. Sculpture Symposium - Arts in Education <br />4. Museum in a Basket - Arts in Education <br />$9,695 <br />5,000 <br />9,465 <br />8,900 <br />Althougha. very young museum, it is already the largest <br />museum school in the region and still growing.. <br />In addition to many special exhibitions that have been <br />praised by the directors of the Metropolitan and National <br />museums, the Center for the Arts has a special room for the <br />Florida artist and promotes the careers of the living Florida <br />artists. <br />I recommend that the Board .of County Commissioners urge <br />that the Bureau of Grant Services of the Division of Cultural <br />Affairs give the Center for the Arts all four grants by <br />sending a letter signed by the Chairman. <br />66 <br />MAR 1 1988 <br />BOOK 71 Face 164 <br />
