White, P.E. /sociates <br />Capital Projects Manager <br />SUBJECT: Work Order #3 - Carter Inc. <br />Continuing Engineering Services Contract - <br />Provides Civil Engineering Services for Phase III <br />of Indian River County Jail <br />DATE: August 24, 1988 <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />In October 1987, Indian River County contracted with W.R. <br />Frizzell Architects 'for professional services for the design of <br />Phase III County Jail Improvements. <br />The Contract with the Architect required the County to provide <br />for certain items and services including civil engineering <br />services and site plan design. <br />Staff has obtained a Proposal and Work Order #3 (4 copies <br />attached) which has been executed by Carter Associates providing <br />for delivery of the required services. <br />The cost of the services will be between $15,415 and $19,460 <br />depending on contingencies as described in section V of the Work <br />Order. This would allow the timely completion of the Architects <br />work in a complete form. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The following alternatives are presented <br />Alternative No. 1 <br />Authorize the Chairman to execute the attached Work Order to <br />Carter & Associates continuing contract. This would allow timely <br />completion of the design by the Architect at a reasonable cost. <br />Alternative No. 2 <br />Reject the Carter proposal and direct staff to obtain additional <br />proposals for the work. <br />This alternative would provide for the services needed. but not in <br />a timely manner and at unknown cost, either greater or lessor. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND FUNDING <br />Staff recommends Alternative #1 as presented. <br />Funding will be from Phase III Jail fund #333-906-523-033.13 <br />which has a $25,000 unused allocation. <br />96 -, <br />
