would be to go ahead and charge the fees, pool them, and hope we <br />get our fair share. <br />Attorney Vitunac advised that since we gave the land to the <br />State with a restriction on it, we can give the State the option <br />of removing the restriction, partially or in whole, or charging <br />half price admission for Indian River County residents or some <br />sort of compromise, and let the State make the choice of whether <br />to accept it or not. Present rule or policy doesn't allow that <br />at the moment, but they have the power to change the rules or <br />change the policy if they want it that badly. <br />Chairman Scurlock suggested authorizing Commissioner Bird to <br />work with the County Attorney's Office to negotiate a position <br />with the State and bring it back to the Board. He believed it <br />would be a good approach to meet with the appropriate people and <br />see what kind of situation is acceptable to the State and stands <br />a chance of getting approved by the Governor and Cabinet, and <br />then bring it back to the Board. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously authorized <br />Commissioner Bird and whatever staff is needed to <br />negotiate an agreement with the State based on the <br />priorities and alternatives listed by Commissioner <br />Bird. <br />Chairman Scurlock asked if any of the County's tourist tax <br />dollars are available for the south side of the Park. <br />Commissioner Wheeler felt some of monies could be used, but <br />pointed out that the revenues generated from the tourist tax <br />really do not amount to a lot of money. <br />Chairman Scurlock thanked the DNR for coming down this <br />morning to receive the County's input. <br />28 car E 472 <br />OCT 11 1988 <br />
