ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by Commis- <br />sioner Bird, the Board unanimously authorized the <br />Chairman to write a letter of support as requested by <br />Florida Community Health Centers, Inc. <br />I. Proclamation "Hire the Handicapped" <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by Commis- <br />sioner Bird, the Board unanimously designated the week <br />of October 23, 1988, as HIRE THE HANDICAPPED WEEK. <br />• <br />' WHEREAS persons with physical and mental.:disabilities <br />have sought;,to overcome vocational, economic, educational, <br />environmentaitiand attitudinal barriers in their pursuit of <br />employment opportunities in Florida; and <br />f i 1 .y <br />WHEREAS .many people with disabilities are ready and <br />willing to 'participate in the workforce, given the <br />advantage, encouragement and support to prepare for work; <br />and <br />• <br />k. <br />WHEREAS the economic growth and development of the <br />State depend upon a reliable workforce of which persons with <br />disabilities comprise an important component; and <br />WHEREAS the Florida Governor's Alliance for Employment <br />of Disabled Citizens continues to recommend policies and <br />develop programs which lead to independent wage earning for <br />those facing barriers to employment and training in Florida; <br />1 • <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED bythe Board of County' <br />Commissioners of Indian River County, lorida that the week, <br />'of October 23, 1988 be declared <br />' •HIRE THE HANDICAPPED WEEK <br />k•� <br />in Indian River.
