because of our situation with the Union and the decertification <br />going on, we have not been able to implement a salary adjustment. <br />He pointed out that we are going to be bringing on the North <br />Beach Water Company plant after we close on that purchase today, <br />and with that, plus our expansion in other areas, we have an <br />urgent need for these people. He believed we need to give <br />Director Pinto some direction today on these positions so he can <br />hire the people and bring them on board at the new salaries. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bowman, to approve staff recommendation <br />regarding re -naming of the three positions listed and <br />appropriation of funds for salary and benefits and <br />also that the new salaries be implemented for the <br />other positions mentioned by the Chairman. <br />Acting Administrator Collins expressed some concern at <br />hiring new people at a higher rate than our existing people <br />because of the on-going Union action. <br />COMMISSIONERS EGGERT and BOWMAN agreed to amend the <br />Motion simply to approve staff recommendation as set <br />out in Mr. Collins' memo dated October 25, 1988. <br />Commissioner Wheeler commented that it was said that one <br />position is contingent on Mr. Barton being elected; so, <br />apparently we would be looking at $12,000 additional plus fringes <br />to keep him in that position. <br />Director Pinto agreed that if Mr. Barton stays on, we will <br />have to take another look at what we are going to do. That is <br />not in this recommendation, and he was not anticipating that <br />happening. He stressed that the problem we are facing is that <br />on all the positions you have lead time for recruiting, and it is <br />important to be able to make a firm offer when someone becomes <br />75 FOOD 75 FrGE 75 <br />NOV 11988 <br />
