CERTIFICATION OF BASIC AND AD- <br />VANCED LIFE SUPPORT SERVICES. BY <br />PROVIDING AN EXPANDED DEFINITION <br />FOR EMS DIRECTOR AND PROVIDING <br />; EMERGENCY POWERS TO THE DIRECT <br />,TOR. -. l . ; d . <br />Anyone who may wish to appeal any decision <br />which may be made at this meeting will need to <br />ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings. <br />Is made. which includes testimony and evidence <br />upon which the appeal Is based. •'• <br />Dec. 30, 1988 <br />The Board reviewed the following memo dated 1/3/89: <br />612 <br />TO: Board of County Commissioners DATE: January 3, 1989 FILE: <br />SUBJECT: Amendment of Ordinance <br />Number 87-66 <br />FROM: Doug Wright, Director REFERENCES: <br />Emergency Management Services <br />Pursuant to the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners <br />unanimously approving the Department of Emergency Management'Ser- <br />vices proposal to establish a single focus of management for EMS <br />ALS related activities 'within the County, it was evident that <br />the existing language was insufficient for defining the EMS Director's <br />definition. <br />As a result, some research has been accomplished' and a new defin- <br />ition for the EMS Director as approved by the County Attorney <br />is attached for your review and approval if you deem it appro- <br />priate. <br />Approval is recommended in order that the EMS providers clearly <br />understand the duties and responsibilities of the EMS Director <br />and that the single focus of management is identified. It was <br />also felt that some emergency powers should be available to the <br />EMS Director on a temporary basis should a worst case scenario <br />occur at a time when the Board of. County Commissioners were not <br />available to meet on an emergency basis and'some limited language <br />addresses this possibility. <br />Approval by the Board of County Commissioners will provide for <br />.the timely implementation of the ALS service being administered <br />by the County staff. <br />14 <br />
