JAN 31 '9b_') <br />BOOK .1� <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />A Proclamation of Indian River County, <br />Florida, by its Board of County Commissioners, <br />IN MEMORY OF GEORGIE LEE SCURLOCK. <br />WHEREAS, the proper functioning of our system of <br />local government requires having two active political <br />parties; and <br />WHEREAS, people who contribute to the proper <br />functioning of the party system play an important role in <br />the functioning of our democracy; and <br />WHEREAS, GEORGIE LEE SCURLOCK played an important <br />role in the creation of the Republican Party in Indian River <br />County helping take the party from a handful of members to <br />its majority status today, in which Republicans play an <br />important and vital role in the governing of Indian River <br />County; and <br />WHEREAS, GEORGIE LEE SCURLOCK encouraged qualified <br />people tobecome candidates for many local offices, thus <br />giving the voters of this county more opportunity when <br />exercising their voting rights; and <br />WHEREAS, her influence will be felt for many years <br />because of the people now in office who were encouraged by <br />her, including her own son Commissioner Don C. Scurlock, <br />Jr.; and <br />WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate on the passing <br />of Mrs. Scurlock to honor her memory, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that <br />the Board wishes to express its sympathy to the family of <br />GEORGIE LEE SCURLOCK and wishes to honor her name in <br />recognition of her great public service to Indian River <br />County. <br />DATED this 31st day of January, 1989. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />By <br />12 <br />zel€4., <br />Gar, .
